Talaheim means "home on the Tal" in German. Talaheim Lodge is located 80 miles west of Anchorage on the mid-point of the Talachulitna River. The Talachulitna is one of West Cook Inlet’s best fishing rivers and was one of the first "hook and release" rainbow fisheries in the state. Our lodge's location is remote. We have no boat access as our lower river is too rough to navigate by river boat. Our boats were flown in my helicopter. We have a private strip at Talaheim so you will arrive and depart by Cessna wheel plane. Talaheim Lodge is in the wilderness. Bears, moose, and other wildlife are often seen right from the lodge property and the quietness of a remote wilderness is always present.
Talaheim Lodge was the home of the Miller family for years and 30 years later that "homey" atmosphere is still present. Mark Miller built Talaheim Lodge from scratch.
All the buildings are constructed from local logs and timbers cut with our on-site sawmill. Our buildings are rustic Alaskan in design, but modern. All our guest cabins have indoor plumbing, home powered electricity, and wood or gas heat. Two of our guest cabins have just one room with both double and single beds, while a large cabin has two bedrooms sharing a bathroom and living area with a fireplace.
Breakfast and evening meals are served family-style at our main lodge while our lunches are served streamside. A day or two a week you can expect great fish shore lunches prepared by your guide. Our meals are "gourmet family style". Don't expect to loose any weight while staying at our lodge. Wines and frosty beer is served in the evenings. You may bring other drinks as we have plenty of ice and soft drinks available.
Talaheim Lodge has a sauna and streamside hot tub, so bring a swim suit. When we have warmer weather a few brave few take a jump in the river.
Talaheim Lodge has a radio phone. If you wish to make calls, bring a phone card or you may purchase one at the lodge. Sorry, we haven't got internet at the lodge.
